Greater Noida: Car lifter arrested after brief exchange of fire

Greater Noida: In a crackdown by Noida police on Tuesday, an alleged car lifter with a Rs 25,000 reward on his head was arrested after a brief exchange of fire with police.

The man has been identified as Rohit alias Jeeva, and he along with his two other accomplices were involved in the lifting of a white Scorpio car from AWHO-4 on January 26. The car belonged to a Retired Colonel Atul Pratap Singh.

On January 26, four armed men had targeted the colonel and fled away with his car.

While the police had recovered the car on January 28 and returned to the owner on February 2, Rohit and his accomplices were at large. On Tuesday, a team from Beta-2 police station moved into action after receiving a tip-off of Rohit’s whereabouts.

After a brief exchange of fire, the accused was injured with a gunshot in his leg. Police recovered a bullet motorcycle, a 315-bore pistol, a live and a used cartridge.

The accused was then taken to a nearby hospital in Nitari. And, while the police was able to grab Rohit, another accused Manoj was able to escape from the scene.

As per the police, during interrogation, the accused revealed to have been involved in various car lifting activities in the district in the last few days.
