Ghaziabad: Lanes of Shipra Sun City, a township in Indirapuram, will soon be illuminated with the bright solar lights.

Sanjay Singh, municipal councillor of the township, informed CitySpidey that a total of 50 solar lights have been allocated for the township under a Central government scheme to promote renewable energy. They are expected to be installed by March-end.

Singh said that he had sought applications from RWAs of the township for the project.

“I have asked all five apartment owners associations (AOA), of Shipra Suncity, Windsor and Nova, Regalia Heights, Sun Tower and Shipra Neo, to submit their requirement of the solar lights by Monday and have received 20 applications so far," he added.

The solar lights under the scheme require zero investment. However, their maintenance lies with the community. Hence, Singh says the AOAs will have to look after their respective lights at a minimal cost.

What's more, the solar lights, he said would remain maintenance-free for two years from the date of installation. The battery is maintenance-free for the two years while the light is maintenance-free for 20 years from the date of installation.

Singh also said that if a technical fault surfaces before the maintenance period, the manufacturer will repair the light.
