Delhi’s top private hospitals run out of ICU beds with ventilators
New Delhi: The recent surge in new coronavirus cases has resulted in higher occupancy at the hospitals. Now, the ICU beds with ventilators are running full in many top private hospitals.
As per the Corona App, there are 1,244 critical care beds dedicated to coronavirus patients. Out of which, 845 (nearly 68 per cent) are occupied.
The ICU facilities with ventilator support are running full at top private hospitals like Indraprastha Apollo, Fortis Hospital in Vasant Kunj, Fortis Escorts, BL Kapoor and Max Hospital at Shalimar Bagh.
Moreover, only five out of the 50 ICU beds with ventilators were available at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The situation was worse at the Safdarjung Hospital, where only one out of the 54 beds was vacant.
Out of the 82 private hospitals with ICU beds having ventilator support, 38 are running full.
On Monday, Delhi reported 4,001 new coronavirus cases, taking the cumulative tally to 3,96,371. With 42 fatalities, the death toll has reached 6,604.
