You say Parantha, we say Moolchand!

The love North Indians have for Parathas can probably beat any other love story. It is not just a staple breakfast but an emotion in itself. If you live in Delhi, you're probably familiar with what reputation Parathas hold in the heart of Delhiites. One name that is synonymous with parathas in Delhi is Moolchand Paratha corner.

Moolchand paratha has been dishing out parathas for the last 47 years. The parathas it serves are topped with melting butter, stuffed with different stuffings of your choice and served with pickle or curd or even lassi. Even though parathas are deemed to be breakfast food but who is stopping you from having it any other time of the day, it tastes just the same. The lovers of parathas flock to this outlet near Moolchand Metro station (violet) throughout the day to dig into these steaming parathas.

When I visited Moolchand Paratha corner, I had high expectations because of all the buzz the place has been creating for years. I ordered an onion-potato paratha and it was served with butter, onion rings, green chutney and pickle. 10 minutes later, after having enjoyed every bite of this paratha I could categorically say that it was one of the most satisfying breakfasts I have ever had, no cap!

This place, which for me, was worth the hype. Paranthas here come with great taste and a lot of variety. From regular aloo paranthas and gobhi paranthas, you'll also find cheese paratha, cheese chilli garlic, egg and chicken paratha and what not! The menu of Moolchand is so big that you would need several visits to do justice to it.

The journey of Moolchand started in 1975, and from selling only two varieties to now serving 29, the shop has come a long way. Deepak Khatter, who runs the shop, says, “My father, Ram Lal Subhash Chandra Khattar started this place in 1975. However, it was in the last six years only that we have converted it into a food outlet.” Recently, they have also opened another outlet in Kalkaji with the same name.

This 47-year-old shop is not only famous among Delhiites but their parathas are also loved by the King of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan, who used to enjoy their parathas during his time in Delhi. Sushant Singh Rajput has also expressed his love for Moolchand Paratha wala in one of his interviews.

Just as you get off Moolchand Metro Station, the tempting aromas of paranthas will start to tickle your nostrils. The place dishes out these paranthas from  7:00 am till 11:30 Pm every day. You can come here at any time of the day to satisfy your cravings with paranthas starting at just rupees 40. It is a buzzing hub for college students and youngsters who love to bite into these yummy greasy paranthas.

One of the visitors Mahendra Singh, who was enjoying a thali with his wife, says, “I have been visiting this place even before my marriage, from last  12 years. The best thing about this outlet is the quality and taste has not changed over the years.”

Rashi Khana, a college-going student expressed, “It is one of my favorite places since school time. Here, I love enjoying food with my family and friends.”

The place has expanded its horizons and has recently introduced south Indian delicacies like sambar dosa and pav bhaji because of its high demand online. Along with paratha, you can enjoy several drinks like lassi, fruit juice, and soft drinks with your meal. If you wish to treat yourself to something sweet then you do not have to visit somewhere else. The place also serves sweet treats like kheer, phirni, mithi lassi and Gulab Jamun.

It is the perfect place to kickstart your weekend with toothsome parathas.
