Panchsheel Greens: Senior citizens get stuck in a lift

Greater Noida: Malfunctioning lifts are not an uncommon issue in the high-rise residential societies of Noida and Greater Noida. Another such incident came to light in Panchsheel Greens 2, a group housing society in Greater Noida West.
On March 10, 2022, five residents got stuck in the lift of Tower A4, Panchsheel Greens at 10 am. Of the five residents, two of them were senior citizens. Residents were stuck for nearly 20 minutes after which they were rescued by the lift operator.

Laxmi Narayan Mittal (62), one of the residents who got stuck in the lifts remembers the incidents, “I was with my grandson and we were returning from the park. The lift stopped on the 6th floor. We pressed the alarm button many times but nothing happened. The guard came after 15 minutes, then they called the lift operator to rescue us. The exhaust fan was also not working, due to which it became very difficult to stand there. The floor was about 2.5 ft from the lift which created more difficulties for us. ”

After this incident came to light the residents are in fear and demand action against the builder’s maintenance team. Tower A-4 has 150 flats and about 130 families live in this tower. Residents have alleged that the lift does not have a maintenance certificate. They shared that they have been complaining about this issue to the lift’s company. However, no action has been taken so far.

As per residents, the issue of malfunctioning lifts is perennial in the society. Episodes of people getting stuck in the lift have been reported five to six times(since 2016) before this incident. They further shared that they have raised the issue of maintenance of lifts with the builder. But no permanent solutions have been executed.

Another resident who got stuck in the lift Vimla Setia (74) says, “I dropped my grandson off at his school. My maid and I both got stuck in the lift together. There was so much suffocation, I was not able to stand there. I also suffer from back pain and it was very difficult to get myself out from a very narrow space. It is high time that the maintenance team looks into this problem.”

CitySpidey tried to contact the maintenance team of the lift but did not get any response from them.
