Noida Sector 35: Residents riled due to prolonged power cuts

Noida: With high-rise residential societies and commercial skyscrapers, Noida is considered to be an advanced and developed area, where people expect a life without any power cuts. However, the reality is far from perfect. There have been regular complaints of prolonged and frequent power cuts and ill-maintained power infrastructure.

In Sector 35, Noida, the RWA and residents complain that they are fed up with the power cuts in their area. They also say that exposed electrical wires and rusted poles pose a threat to the safety of the residents and also raise the question of ill maintenance of the infrastructure.

S. K. Vaid, RWA President of sector 35, says, "In a day, the power is cut more than atleast fifteen times a day. The power cuts sometimes last for as long as ten hours. Our electrical appliances get damaged. There is no schedule or system of power cuts."

The residents of the Sector 35 are displeased and asking the authorities for how long the electricity condition will stay like this.  Residents are complaining that they are working from home and the irregular electricity supply disturbs their work. It also hampers students' online classes.

Manoj Mittal, a resident of the Sector 35 and President of the Indian Association Of Structural Engineering says, "The situation in Sector 35, Noida is too pathetic to describe. Voltage fluctuation has become so common that a lot of people don't even bother anymore. All residents here pays their dues in time, don’t they deserve better?"

Manoj Mittal further says, "I am not sure if it is lack of resources or that the matter is not given enough priority by the authority. Should we all buy generators because invertors are not made for such an erratic power supply? Water supply also gets affected due to it."

Manoj also informs that shot circuits in transformers are very common in this sector. According to the residents, the poor and obsolete electrical infrastructure is the main cause of the power cuts. Transformers, wires, jumpers, feeders, and electrical poles need immediate attention.
