Grenowest- Open drains invite mishaps, residents demand their covering

A car fell into the open drain at the 60-meter NH24 road on December 3, 2022. The public is angry after this incident and is demanding the Authority cover all open drains in the area.

As gathered, the Greater Noida Authority had covered the open drains in Greater Noida West, Sector 16 B outside the Supertech Ecovillage 3 belt. However, residents allege that there are many other drains throughout GreNo West that have been open for years.

It has come to notice that there are many drains which are still uncovered in Greater Noida West. Some of them can be found at-

  • Ace city to Hanuman Mandir in Sector 1
  • Hanuman Mandir to Chaar Moorti in Sector 1(both ways)
  • A 45 meters road from Aartha SEZ to Ek murti chowk. Highly populated as well as under-construction societies are situated here such as Amrapali Centurion Park, Fusion Homes, and Cherry County.
  • Atul marg near ACE Aspire, Greater Noida West.

CitySpidey reached out to some residents to gather their views on the issue.

Manish Kumar, Vice President, NEFOWA says, "The drain at Hanuman Mandir to Chaar Moorti in Sector 1 has been uncovered for a long time. We tried our best to get the work done by Greater Noida Authority, they even came to take the measurements in August 2021, but unfortunately, nothing has been done for so long. For how many more months or say years do we have to wait for these officials to turn up and finish the work."

Ranjana Suri Bhardwaj, resident of Supertech Eco Village and Vice President of NEFOWA Women cell says, “Open drains are life-threatening for cattle. Moreover, vehicles are also at risk of falling in these uncovered drains. Moreover, these drains are a breeding place for mosquitoes which is an open invitation of Dengue and other diseases.”

She continues, “Every term, we get a promise from our high dignitaries that drains at sector 1 will be covered. It has been now 5 years."

Purushottam Sati, a resident of Arihant Amber, Sector 1 says, “We have been asking the authorities to pay heed to these open drains for the past 3 years. One can come and see that the drains are inviting accidents from Arihant Ambar, Sector 1 to ATS chowk, the new Hindon bridge. This is a total patch of 3 km.”

He continues, “The major risk is that they are not only wide, deep but the boundaries are also broken, hence anyone can fall in them. In the rain, one cannot distinguish between the drains and the road. These drains are clogged with dirt, which results in the mosquitoes' breeding spots."

CitySpidey reached out to Greater Noida Authority to know the development in the issue. An official while talking to CitySpidey said, “The whole area is in our concern and we are working towards covering all open drains in the area. we have started the Enterprise Resource Planning ERP system here. The work will start as soon after the tender is passed."
