Noida: In the next three months, the Noida Authority will get about 620 electric bikes to put at 62 docking stations across the city. This will be the first public bike-sharing system in the city.

For this project, two companies have been chosen by the authority to run different docking stations. At first, each station will have 10 bikes available, but that number could go up if more people want to use them.

The e-cycles will be controlled by a mobile app, and digital payment app can also be used to pay for them. The app lets cyclists take a bike from one stand and return it to any docking station. The e-bikes will be used as part of the public bike-sharing program. The system is also being put in place as part of the Clean Noida and Fit India movements.

According to the authority, the service would be offered between 7 am to 10 pm. Rajendra Prashad, a resident of sector 62, said, “I don’t think it’s good for young people as they drive recklessly and don’t wear helmets correctly. And, there is a lot of traffic on the roads these days, so authority needs to take care of all these things before opening the service.”

The folks who love cycling and go for morning walk at least enjoy a ride, according to Archana Yadav, a 43-year-old inhabitant of sector 37 Noida. “However, I don’t suppose we can use it to get to a more distant mall because of its parking point,” she said.
