Dwarka: “Raat kitni hi bhale ho syah, aakhir me usse/ Maat khani hi padegi roshni ke haath se.” Taking cognizance of CitySpidey report published on 27 January titled “Dark tales of Dwarka - 23 street light poles non-functional”, civic authorities have swung into action and positive result is quite evident now – the entire stretch in Sector 5 is no more dark.

It may be recalled that on 24 January 2023, CitySpidey reporter was on a round in Sector 5 and found that prominent and busy roads in front of two government schools and in the backside of five societies were in dark around 10 pm. It was found that the stretch was mostly in dark from the corner of Sector 5 Mixed Land Use market going towards Kesharwani Apartments Sector 5.

The stretch is in the back side of various societies like DDA SFS flats Sector 5, Vivekanand Apartments, Ganimat Nikunj Apartments, Mansarovar Apartments and Kesharwani Apartments. Also the road passes in front of two government schools - the Central School and a Pratibha Vikas Vidhyalaya. There are dense overview trees on the both sides of the road and most of the streetlight poles were hidden by them. They were not working and those working were partially hidden by the trees.

However, authorities have taken notice of the report and they have made adequate arrangements ensuring all the streetlights are properly lit now. CitySpidey is running a series “Dark tales of Dwarka” highlighting the poor plight of these premises.

However, residents’ group of Dwarka - All Dwarka Resident Federation (ADRF) followed-up the matter with the concerned civic authorities and finally their efforts were fruitful.

Vice president of ADRF, Aman Bhandari said, “The update on the subject was shared on 1st February and it was informed that the particular subject was followed-up and street light poles are functional now. CitySpidey visited the dark stretch on 2nd February around 9 pm and found that almost all the street lights were lit. It was found that only 3-4 poles were not working and officials have assured to look into it.
