Despite having a rainwater harvesting pit for two years now, Abhinav Apartments, a society in Vasundhara Enclave, is yet to use the system.

"We started excavating for the rainwater harvesting pit after getting the municipal corporation's approval," said Suneel Singh, managing committee manager. "We spent Rs 1 lakh on the construction of this 20-m-long and 50-m-deep concrete tank, adhering to all specifications. But when we went for the horticulture department's approval to start using it, the officials denied us permission, saying it was set up in the society's green area and hence, could not be allowed."

When City Spidey contacted DP Singh, a senior official in the horticulture department, he said he was unaware of the issue. He, however, said, “Green areas cannot be used for any other purpose. No construction is allowed in them, be it within the society or outside it.”

Is there a way out of this constant to and fro between the municipal corporation and the horticulture department, residents wonder.
