Thieves broke into a house in Sector 26 in broad daylight on May 8 and decamped with a laptop and a silver bar of 200 gm.

According to the police, the incident took place at 12.15 pm when the complainants Peeyush Handa, 32, and his wife had gone to work. The couple lives as tenants on the ground floor of a three-story building and work for a private firm in Sector 132.

The matter came to light when Rajendera Bhati, the landlord, who lives on the first floor, was stepping out, and saw that many items were scattered up to the door and the lock was broken.

The landlord informed the couple and called the police. The couple told the police that the laptop was kept on a table and the silver bar was kept inside a cupboard.

The police said that the thieves ransacked the accommodation as they were looking for other items to steal. Bhati told the police that the main entry gate was not locked from inside and that he did not notice any suspicious movement.

However, the police added that a CCTV camera’s footage shows two people entering the house, breaking the locks and coming out within 10 minutes.

Anil Kumar Shahi, SHO, Sector 20, told City Spidey, “The two people were not masked. Based on the complaint, we have registered a case and an investigation is underway.”
