New Delhi: Heavy rains lashed the national capital on Wednesday morning, causing drop in the temperature. It has come as a relief to people who were facing sultry weather for long.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted more rains in the national capital on Wednesday. As per the news agency PTI, many key stretches of major roads have been flooded after the rain.

In a series of tweets, Delhi Traffic Police informed the citizens about the flooding on roads, affecting the traffic. They advised people to avoid those routes.

As per the weather department, the heavy rain has been caused by south-westerly winds from the Arabian Sea and south-easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal.

The Safdarjung Observatory, which gives representative figures for the city, recorded 139.2 mm rainfall against the normal of 157.1 mm in August so far. It showed a deficiency of 11 per cent.

Overall, the observatory has recorded 457.8 mm rainfall. It is six per cent more than the normal of 433.2 mm since June 1 when the monsoon season started.
