London, home to Jimmy Choo, Galliano, and a slew of other well-known designers, is unquestionably one of the world's fashion capitals. London welcomes bright, imaginative ideas and draws outstanding artists from all around the world.

When you think about international fashion capitals, you're probably thinking of the Big Four. But it's impossible not to think of the shiny aesthetics that are so synonymous with this country. Above all, Tokyo style is defined by its eccentricity. Kitsch isn't always a bad thing, and it's liberating for Japanese designers to be able to play around with their couture.

Consider wearing goth platform boots with a tutu and a pair of John Lennon specs. Who's to say you can't go all out? It's not a faux pas to wear socks under a pair of flip-flops; it's subversive. It also looks lovely with an Indian kurta and two glittering bobble elastics knotted in two Street Fighter buns. Trust us when we say that whatever you can imagine is already a thing in Tokyo.

6. Shanghai, China

Shanghai designers utilise the region's availability of textile and garment industries to create transversal designs that merge traditional and modern motifs. The Shanghai Textile and Costume Museum, which houses over 250 pieces dating back to the Warring States Period (475-221 B.C.), gives visitors a taste of China's fashion history. This isn't your grandmother's needlework – or her satin brocade, velvet, silk, or linen – so appreciate how far back Chinese style history extends and how they've remained in style forever.
