Greater Noida to be bestowed with six new power stations

Greater Noida: Greater Noida is well on its way to becoming a hub for not only educational institutions but for industrial units as well. Along with this, more residential units are also coming up in the city and it is also developing as a data centre hub. All of this underlies the expanding need for electricity in the city. Keeping that in view, the Greater Noida Authority has cleared the construction of six proposed power stations in Greater Noida. The authority will give the total amount to be required for the construction of these power stations to Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited (UPPTCL). The Uttar Pradesh government has also issued an order on this.

It is estimated that about Rupees 1,000 crore will be spent to build all these power stations. The Authority will start the construction work after completing the paperwork. All these power stations will be based on Gas Insulated System (GIS). With the construction of these power stations, the electricity requirement of Greater Noida for the next ten years will be easily met.

Out of the six proposed power stations, UPPTCL will construct two power stations of 400 KV. The GreNo Authority itself will build 220 KV and 132 KV substations.

One hurdle on this project was the double GST on the money which will be spent on the construction of these power stations. The double GST was going to put an additional burden on the Authority. However, the authority raised this issue in front of the Government and it was decided that the authority would give the amount spent in the construction of the power plants to UPPTCL as a grant.
