Wrong side driving on roads, a common sight in Dwarka

Driving on the wrong side of the road has become a common sight these days. There are several points on Dwarka roads where people can be seen driving on the wrong side. Although police claim that they are taking action against such people, however, there has been no improvement in the situation.

Not only cars and bikes but also heavy vehicles like school vans and DTC buses are violating the traffic rules. Residents of the sub-city say that in the morning, it becomes tough to commute on the roads because of people driving on opposite sides.

Ex-Joint Secretary of Harsukh Apartments Sector 7, Ravi Jaitley says, “In the morning, school vans violate the traffic rules and drive on the wrong side to save their time. They drive carelessly and create difficulty for the other commuters. One such point where wrong side driving is rampant is at the signals near Dwarka Court. Also near Palam Flyover, wrong side driving is very common.”

Near Peepal Apartments Sector 17E gate as well, vehicles can often be seen taking wrong turns. While observing the movement of traffic, it was found that mostly the vehicles that have to approach the CNG pump adjacent to Peepal Apartments take the wrong side. Also, sometimes vehicles are seen taking the wrong side to enter society as well. At spots such as the signal of Sector 3, the signal near MRV Bus Stand, KM Chowk, Vivekanand Chowk and at the chowk of Sector 6/10/5/11, the signals near DCP office, such violations are very common. Even at one of the busiest chowks in Dwarka, Ashirvad Chowk, such violations of traffic rules can be witnessed.

A resident of Peepal Apartments Sector 17E, RK Sharma says that the signal near his society has become dangerous as heavy vehicles often can be seen taking the wrong side to approach the CNG pump station. “This is extremely dangerous as we have our gate near the signal. Despite the presence of traffic police officials, such violations are not in control.”

“Traffic Police should ensure a safe space for commuters who follow the rules by punishing those who don't. No strict action is taken by anyone against those who violate traffic rules. That should be taken care of asap” says Mahesh Gupta, general secretary not RWA Sector 5 DDA SFS flats.

On the issue, Traffic Police officials said that they will take the subject into concern and do the needful.
