MCD launches 'Zero Waste Colony' campaign

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched a 'Zero Waste Colony' campaign in its Central Zone. This unique initiative endeavours to streamline the management of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and drastically reduce the logistics cost presently being incurred by the MCD.

The main focus of this campaign is the processing of wet waste generated by the respective colonies through home and community composting and inculcating the principle of 5Rs (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot).

While the primary focus of the initiative is composting, it is not limited to that. There are other elements such as plastic waste management, beautification, backlane transformation and 3R initiatives among others which are critical to the success of this campaign.

On the occasion, Additional Commissioner A.A.Tazir, Deputy Commissioner Danish Ashraf, Central Zone and Asstt. Commissioner Madhukant Kumar along with executive body members of RWA's of MCD Central Zone and other civic officials were present.
