Anti-plastic drives pay off, Ghaziabad gets yet another road

Yet another road built from plastic waste adorns the map of Ghaziabad. The road in Lohia Nagar was inaugurated on Friday by Aasha Sharma, mayor, and Dinesh Chandra, in the presence of commissioner of the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC).

This is the third road made of plastic in Ghaziabad. 350 kg plastic waste was used to construct the 205 meter long road.

Moinuddin Khan, chief engineer of the GMC said the plastic was crushed and mixed with 5 per cent tarcoal to build the road. The GMC used the plastic waste seized during multiple drives to build the road in the city. It had conducted these drives after the Uttar Pradesh government banned the use of plastic in August 2018.

In July, the corporation had constructed a 100 meter long road in front of Yashoda Hospital in Sanjay Nagar using plastic waste. Only last week, it inaugurated a 280 meter long road made from plastic waste in Kavi Nagar area of the city.

The GMC has collected Rs. 80 lakh so far through fines charged from those found using plastic.
