Blockage of drain & water-logging along NH-9, a major cause of concern

New Delhi: Due to the blockage of the drain along NH-9 in East Delhi, there is a problem of water-logging on this road and in the surrounding areas. This is one of the major connecting drains for the surrounding areas like Kondli and Ghazipur, but due to debris and bushes growing in the drain, the drain is blocked and causing water logging.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia inspected the drain alongside NH9 in East Delhi, along with the officials yesterday. It is to be noted that this drain is connected to the surrounding areas and helps flush out the sewage during monsoon. But due to drain blockage, the problem of water logging arises here during the monsoon season too.

Taking immediate cognizance of this problem of the people, Sisodia has instructed the officials to clean the drain and ensure a smooth flow of sewage water. He said that the government had been receiving complaints from the people of East Delhi that due to the blockage of the drain along NH-9, there is a problem of water-logging on this road and in the surrounding areas during the monsoon season. This is one of the major connecting drains for the surrounding areas, but due to debris and bushes growing in the drain, the drain is blocked and causing water logging.

Sisodia added that the Delhi government is committed to providing better facilities to the people of the capital. Keeping this problem of the people of East Delhi on priority, the government has taken immediate cognizance and has instructed the PWD officials to start cleaning the drain immediately and fixing the flow of water. This will ensure a better drainage system for the surrounding areas.
