GreNo West: Underpass to be built soon at Gaur Chowk

GreNo: The Greater Noida Authority has started preparations to give a big gift to the residents of Greater Noida West. The authority  is soon going to build a 700 meters long underpass at one of the busiest intersections of Greater Noida West, Gaur Chowk (Kisan Chowk or Char Murti Roundabout). The Authority's CEO Narendra Bhushan has given in-principle consent to build this project on Thursday, 10 March 2022. This underpass will be built parallel to a 60 meters road. It is estimated that around 60 crores will be spent on this project.

The population of Greater Noida West is increasing, which leads to more traffic at busy intersections. In order to avoid regular traffic jams, as a temporary option, two U-Turns have been made on the 130 meter road on either side of the intersection. Vehicles going from Gaur City towards Surajpur and Noida pass through a U-turn on the 130-meter road. Similarly, vehicles going to Gaur City and Pratap Vihar through 130 meters road or Surajpur side pass through a U-turn towards Noida.

To find a permanent solution to this, a survey of this intersection was done by the government advisory agency RITES on the instructions of Narendra Bhushan, CEO, Greater Noida Authority. The agency submitted its report to the authority in January 2022. According to the report, more than 13 thousand vehicles pass through this intersection daily. The agency further suggested building an underpass here. Vehicles going from Pratap Vihar to Surajpur, Greater Noida will pass through  this underpass.

This new underpass will save both time and fuel for the drivers. Project AK Arora, General Manager, Greater Noida Authority says, “The length of this underpass will be around 700 meters. Now the design and DPR of this underpass will be ready. Its estimate will be tested by IIT. After that, the tender process will start. The target is to get the tender out in three months. It is estimated that it will take about two years to complete once the construction starts. Greater Noida Authority CEO Narendra Bhushan has given instructions to start the construction soon.”

Manish Kumar, Senior Vice President NEFOWA says, “It is a good move by the authorities. This will definitely help with the traffic woes in the city. We all are hoping the construction will start soon without any delay.”
